PET/CT FDG Skull to Thigh (78815 FDG)

Required Exam Prep

  • Nothing to eat or drink, including gum, mints, or candy 6 hours prior to your exam. Only water allowed.
  • Discontinue long acting insulins 12 hours prior to exam and short acting insulins 6 hours prior to exam
  • Avoid carbohydrates and sugars day prior to exam.
  • No strenuous activity for 24 hours prior to the scan.

What to Expect

  • The technologist will review the exam with you.
  • Technologist will check your blood sugar and start an IV.
  • Technologist will inject you with the tracer, & remove the IV.
  • You will wait in the uptake room for about 45min-1hr while we let the medication circulate. The room has a recliner, a TV, and we will provide you with a warm blanket. Bring a book if you prefer to read
  • After the uptake process is completed we will ask that you use the restroom to empty your bladder (This makes the pictures look better).

  • You will wait in the uptake room for about 45-50 mins while we lee tracer circulate. The room has a recliner and we will provide you with a warm blanket.
  • After the uptake process is completed, we will offer a chance for you to use the restroom.
  • You will also be asked to remove any metal, (hearing aids, dentures, jewelry, etc), and change, if clothing has metal.
  • You will lie down on the imaging table and begin the scan which will last approximately 25-35 minutes.

  • You will also be asked to remove any metal, (hearing aids, dentures, jewelry, etc), and change, if clothing has metal.
  • Technologist will start an IV, injec t the tracer, pictures will start immediately afterwards and lasts about 30min
