MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a simple, painless diagnostic procedure that produces images of anatomy without using radiation. There are no known side effects to an MRI. San Diego based, Imaging Healthcare, is a leading outpatient center of medical imaging services, including MRI’s and open air MRI’s. MRI uses a magnetic field, radio waves and computers to generate images of tissues within the body. The images obtained provide our physicians with a view of the body’s structures enabling them to diagnose many diseases. Typically, an MRI scan will vary in length between 20 and 60 minutes, depending upon the information required by your physician.

Open MRI

Open air MRI’s provide patients with a more comfortable and stress-free environment in which they can receive high quality diagnostic testing. Our MRI scanners are open on all four sides, eliminating the confined spaces and dark tunnels of traditional high-field MRI scanners. Patients can enjoy the benefits of MRI scanning without the fear of confinement or having to take sedatives. Open air MRI provides a quieter and significantly more comfortable experience for the patient.

The open styling of our MRI scanners can accommodate a variety of patients needs, including those who are:

• Claustrophobic
• Unable to lie comfortably in conventional MRI scanners
• Athletes with wide shoulders
• In need of acute care supervision
• Larger, in excess of 200 pounds and up to 500 pounds
• Anyone who simply wants a more comfortable Open Air MRI exam experience

Prep Instructions

1. Arrive at the specified time to allow for registration and exam preparation.
2. Notify us upon arrival of any special needs or allergies
3. Bring insurance card and authorization or worker’s comp information.
4. Plan to pay required co-pays at the time of service.
5. Bring a picture ID.
6. Wear comfortable clothing.

To insure the highest quality procedure in a safe environment, we are unable to provide child care services for you at the time of your examination. Please do not bring unattended children to the imaging center.

Additional MRI Prep Instructions

1. Avoid metal in clothing and personal items
2. For abdominal exam, do not eat or drink for at least 4 hours prior to the exam.
