MRI, 3T MRI & Open MRI

MRI

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is a simple, painless diagnostic procedure that produces images of anatomy without the use of radiation and there are no known side effects. San Diego based, Imaging Healthcare Specialists, is a leading outpatient center of medical imaging services, including MRI’s, open air MRI’s and 3T (Tesla) MRI. MRI uses a magnetic field, radio waves and computers to generate images of tissues within the body. The images obtained provide our physicians with a view of the body’s structures enabling them to diagnose many diseases. Typically, an MRI scan will vary in length between 20 and 60 minutes, depending upon the information required by your physician.

Our MRI centers in San Diego county offer many advantages, including:

  • Exquisite Image Quality Afforded by the Latest High-Field, Wide-Bore, and Open Technology
  • Easy, Patient-Friendly Environment Designed for Patient Comfort in our Wide-Bore and Open Scanners
  • Electronic Transmission of Results and Images to Referring Physicians
  • Expert Physicians and Staff Recognized Nationally
  • Expanded Imaging Applications such as Stroke, Angiography, Cartilage, Breast, Biliary, Spine, Pelvis and Liver imaging
  • Experience-Over 80 Years of Imaging Innovation as well as San Diego’s first provider of MRI

3T MRI: The Newest and Most Powerful in San Diego

3 Tesla MRI, or 3T MRI, is currently the gold standard in MRI and the leading-edge MRI scanner in medical technology. Tesla refers to the strength of the magnetic field and enables a scan with three-dimensional images to be done in less than 20 minutes. The 3T MRI also picks up more signals from tissues and organs, resulting in crisper, clearer images.

Imaging Healthcare Specialists features a 3T MRI scanner at our Golden Triangle location devoted to clinical use. This advanced technology allows patients to benefit from faster, more accurate diagnoses and more successful treatments.

Physicians may require 3T MRI to evaluate patients with a number of musculoskeletal, neurological and vascular conditions where precise details are especially crucial to diagnosis, including, but not limited to:

  • Cartilage and ligament analysis
  • Small bones
  • Traumatic brain injuries
  • Tumor evaluation/surveillance
  • Dementia/Memory Loss
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Epilepsy/Seizures

Imaging Healthcare Specialists offers the only non-research 3T MRI available to patients in San Diego County.

Open MRI

Open air MRI’s provide patients with a more comfortable and stress-free environment in which they can receive high quality diagnostic testing. Our open MRI scanners are open on all four sides, eliminating the confined spaces and dark tunnels of traditional high-field MRI scanners. Patients can enjoy the benefits of MRI scanning without the fear of confinement or having to take sedatives. Open air MRI provides a quieter and significantly more comfortable experience for the patient.

The open styling of our MRI scanners can accommodate a variety of patients needs, including those who are:

  • Claustrophobic
  • Unable to lie comfortably in conventional MRI scanners
  • Athletes with wide shoulders
  • In need of acute care supervision
  • Larger, in excess of 200 pounds and up to 500 pounds
  • Anyone who simply wants a more comfortable Open Air MRI exam experience
